
Denise Kuhna is a retired WCPS administrator. During her 24 years with WCPS, she worked as an elementary classroom teacher, Special Education Teacher, and Case Manager at Eastern Elementary School. She then moved to Lincolnshire to become a first grade and then a second-grade teacher. Following the second year of teaching at Lincolnshire, she became a Lead Teacher there for two years. She joined Melissa Williams at the CES on Commonwealth Avenue to administer Title 1 funds to the eight elementary schools that participated in the 21st Century After-School Program. The grant was not renewed for the second four years, and Denise became an Assistant Principal at Fountaindale Elementary School for four years and then was named principal at Hickory Elementary. She remained there for another four years. The last two years of her career
were spent at Cascade Elementary.
During her retirement, she continues to be active in many civic organizations and volunteers her time with the Maryland Theatre and her church St. Joseph Catholic Church in Halfway. Denise continues in the education field as a Title 1 Tutor at St. Mary Elementary School and is a substitute teacher at Jonathan Hager Elementary School. She will tell anyone that asks that her greatest pleasure in life is being a grandmother to her six
grandchildren!
